We conducted three focus groups to determine the utility of BRCTs in shared decision making.  The results of these groups demonstrated that:

 

• Patients value shared decision making

• Many people question the validity of medical information that is provided by the press and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

• BRCTs are easy for patients to understand and clarify health information

• BRCTs can lead to a reduction in overtreatment.
